It all starts with a hero ingredient. Inspired by our local region, Altina's non-alcoholic cocktails are totally Canberra made - that won’t be changing!
Altina has been quietly growing in size, strength and popularity with their unique drinks. And not just in Canberra.
Having made the jump from their professional careers into the creative small business world, Alan and Christina are forging new ground for their local craft cocktails.
Born from their own personal experience of corporate and social events, Alan and Christina started noticing the lack of quality, mature, flavourful non-alcoholic options. They decided to change this.
Having taken multiple leaps in the past year to expand their business, Altina is becoming available nationally and adding new products to the range, all while their products continue to be based entirely around their local love for Canberra and our region.
Light Me Up heroes forestberry, a native eucalyptus leaf. Having seen the leaf whilst in nature within our region they explored its characteristics and found it had an interesting pink berry flavour and delicate fragrance. Ideas like this make Alinta stand out from the crowd - forging new flavours and creating a ingenious path ahead. You will also experience flavours of native wattle seed and sweet apple. Perfection.
La Vie En Rose was imagined during spring in Canberra. Inspired by Floriade and the rose gardens, this cocktail explores the floral flavours of pink rose petals, organic hibiscus and beautiful sweet oranges.
Their newest cocktail, the Decaf 'Espresso Yourself' is created using locally roasted decaf coffee, cocoa, spice & a kick of chilli. This decadent non-alcoholic cocktail moonlights as the perfect zero proof espresso martini! Yes, we know! Think cold brew, but not like you've ever had it before.
Best of all, all of Altina's flavours are inspired by nature, containing no artificial colours, flavours, fruit juices or concentrates - and they even have no added sugar.
They are crafted, bottled, labeled and shipped from their Mitchell warehouse.
How long have you been making non-alcoholic cocktails and how long has Altina been running?
We launched Altina Drinks on 1 Dec 2018, when we released our first bottled cocktail. We enjoyed a wonderful alcohol free celebration with over 100 Canberrans enjoying a perfect Summer afternoon.
Why is local shopping important to you?
Supporting local is essential – of course there’s the economic benefits to keeping the local economy going, but there’s so much more than that when you start to meet the people and hear the stories behind a business. They’re run by people who have a real sense of pride in what they do and support their community in many other ways.
What is your favourite stage in the cocktail making journey?
There’s something really satisfying about packing those freshly filled bottles into boxes ready to go out to our customers. We also live for the impact we can have on people’s lives and love hearing how we’ve helped to change people’s drinking habits and introduced them to something they can enjoy without compromise.
What is next for Altina?
We’ve got a big 2021 planned, taking our cocktails to the national market. We’ve also got some exciting new flavours in the works!
What is your favourite spot in Canberra?
As northsiders, we love lake Ginninderra – we go for family bike rides and picnics and love taking our little one to the parks there.
What have you been binge watching?
This isn’t your average interpretation of binge watching, but Alan and I like to watch videos of our little one that we’ve taken throughout the day and catch up on all the things he’s learning and discovering. We’ve been growing Altina so quickly in the last 6 months we don’t have time to be binge watching tv!
